Safes & Specialty Help

Pick a safe technician carefully — avoid drill-happy calls and vague pricing on a job that needs real expertise.

Do this. In this order.

Four simple steps. No jargon, no panic. Walk through them in order and you'll come out fine.

Step 1 — Confirm specialty

"Are you a safe technician, or a general locksmith who also opens safes?" Specialists are dramatically less likely to drill unnecessarily.

Step 2 — Ask the approach

A real safe tech will diagnose first: type, condition, lock style. Manipulation or scoping comes before any drill.

Step 3 — Get the cost ceiling

"What's the maximum I could pay? What triggers the higher number — hardplate? Relockers?" Know the worst case in advance.

Step 4 — Confirm aftercare

If they have to drill, will they restore the safe to working condition? Replace the relockers? You want it usable after.

Phone Script

Copy this. Read it word-for-word.

“I have a [brand/model if known] safe that's [stuck / forgotten combo / lost key]. Are you a safe specialist? What's your diagnostic approach, and what's the cost ceiling?”

Quick answers

The questions everyone asks the moment they pick up the phone.

Is drilling always the answer?

No. Many safes can be opened with manipulation, scoping, or known recovery procedures. Drilling is a last resort for a real specialist.

How long does a safe opening take?

Anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours depending on the safe class. Be wary of anyone promising "instant" on a high-security safe.
